I just want to put this is in the comments as well, since I had a few emails asking about this distinction: The VAST majority of the funds provided by these beauty brands are backing the 123 co-sponsors of Representative Kelly’s SIX-week abortion ban bill, which has no exceptions for rape or incest.
I don’t have words to express how disgusted I feel at this moment. And also thankful, because with every bit of research you publish you make it that much easier for me to buy out of the toxic beauty myths I’ve internalized.
Sadly, I was not surprised to see any of this. But I totally agree — every piece of information I uncover about the behind-the-scenes working of the beauty industry makes it easier for me to opt out.
And why are they disproportionately funding GOP politicians? Corporate tax breaks? More lax regulations? What's the scratch-back they're getting in return?
These corporations definitely back Dem politicians too! It's all the FEC links up there. (Something like this isn't a tit-for-tat thing though; donating to anti-abortion politicians working to enact a national ban isn't mitigated by donating to Dems, too.) But I think support of GOP politicians is explained by the Allergan statement above: “When selecting candidates to support, priority is given to candidates who understand business issues of importance." It's definitely not surprising that "important issues" to consumerist, capitalist organizations would overlap with other forms of oppression.

Thank you for this. Transparency is everything. And choosing with our dollars is vital.
Couldn't agree more.
This piece made me so outraged I became a paying subscriber to support and keep your work moving forward. Thank you!
Thank you SO much!!

Thank you for exposing these double-standard capitalists for who and what they are. Please VOTE!
