Love this call to hold corporations accountable to take concrete actions that go against their profit motives rather than applauding them for empty marketing strategy to appeal to consumers who try to be ethical with their purchases. Just sent Planet A an email!
Love love love the way you've helped us do simple actions to push corporations. Will be pushing on social and email.
Maybe it's in your history (newer subscriber) are there any pieces you've done re: helping people improve their buying? I know that ethical consumption is an imperfect/heavily individualized issue. I'm wondering what resources I should look at/review before/when I buy new products.
Hey Jessica! I would love to hear/read something about body rather than face and all the crazy detergents and dyes etc. we're encouraged to use when we shower. It's kind of wild. I do understand the ways in which soap changed human life for the better (although I am looking for an alternative to soap for daily bathing) but seriously how crazy are scented feminine hygeine products?? Anti-cellulite, Anti-stretch mark, lighteners, chemicals to DISSOLVE the hair from our bodies... and everything packed full of perfume. I'm not being very articulate, but I think there's a lot of shame (and racism and sexism) wrapped up in body cleanliness. I'm fairly new here so apologies if you have done this already!
Hi Lauren! It sounds like what you're interested in is SKIN... which is what I basically built my career reporting on! I have a ton of content out there about how soaps & skincare products are beyond useless and actually harmful. Here are some good ones to start:
For more on the shame/racism/sexism/classism of "cleanliness," I definitely recommend reading the book "Clean: The New Science of Skin" by Dr. James Hamblin if you haven't yet.

Mhmmm spot-on
"Extinction economics" sums it up. Thanks for the script. Diving in!

Thank you so much! I haven't done much on shopping yet but this is a great idea for a future post x
Looking forward to it!
