At the end you two ask us to review to Apple Podcasts but then tongue in cheek add, “but only if you’re going to say nice things” lol 😂 I do love your podcasts!! I listened to this one to the last sentence as evidenced by my comment here!! I feel like I am a willing fly on a wall with your conversations because I am in your field of expertise as an aesthetician, AND I can’t help chiming in here at home as if I were sitting there (wherever you are). So yes. I will add my thumbs up to Apple Podcasts!
okay so I have to share my “oooh this reminded me of another thing” moment while listening - in relation to the Substack bit about too many unoriginal writers. I very clearly remember reading an article in Alternative Press in my emo teen years that bemoaned the fact that there were too many shitty bands around because of Myspace. I guess time is a flat circle.
Always love hearing your take on things, and as a Blake Stan (ugh I feel too old to use that term!), I totally appreciated your deep dive into her callousness. It’s like she’s been a celebrity too long… or as my partner always reminds me, “all celebs are weird.” Also, on your take on Substack… isn’t it just the same as “bloggers” vs. “writers”? We were having the same convo when blogging and then vlogging blew up in the early aughts. Someone somewhere is always going to be upset with how trends and mediums change, and change doesn’t mean the new thing is a threat to you.

I had high hopes for this podcast but I guess it’s not for me. It sounds like two high school girls dishing on the thinnest of topics - Blake Lively is mean! Her clothes and hair products are bad! - with great seriousness and self importance. I did think the conversation about Substack was interesting but the rest left me feeling both frantic and bored. I love Jessica’s writing but the vibe is really off for me on this pod. Maybe I’m just not your demographic but I think I’d vastly prefer a podcast by just Jessica or Jessica with guests.
What is your intention with posting this comment? It's not useful, just negative.
I think this podcast is super fun and provides interesting insights into how celebrity PR, branding and journalism work. It kinda lifts the veil on all the shiny bullshit.
It’s a review. Kind of like what the hosts of this pod do. I like your phrase “lift the veil on all the shiny bullshit” and there’s some truth to that. But they also amplify the shiny bullshit by endlessly dissecting it and for me — someone who was fully expecting to like this pod- it’s just not very interesting or entertaining.

Please Emily, publish your piece somewhere, I'd love to read it!
