the mike mew article was fascinating for me since i spent my youth (and still do) seeing a dentist whose philosophy is 'if its not broke dont fix it'. i never had braces because even though my teeth are kinda crooked they weren't crooked in a way that was harmful. i'm very glad i didn't get braces for cosmetic purposes since they do erode your enamel (obviously its better to have braces if you need them even if they erode enamel, but i didnt need them). the article really felt like it was describing the 'look healthy at the expense of your health' beauty culture trend that we see everywhere and also a weird tie in to 'same-faceness'/'instagram face' but w mike mew as the blueprint instead of instagram filters.
“Because you can’t buy nothing” this exactly! I’ve gotten SO MANY ads on Pinterest for body-hair removal devices that open by admitting how cumbersome, wasteful, and painful shaving with disposable blades is. “Ladies, your razor is not your friend,” they say, telling me to throw my razor away… and buy this other product that does the same thing 🙄 Sooo close to getting it but no
I've noticed this with "deinfluencing" videos. What started as a genuine attempt to dissuade consumption and show authenticity by smaller creators became a reverse uno jedi mind trick ny those who still need/want affiliate income.
Also, Jessica please don't ever change the way you introduce the content for each newsletter. Your use of multiple exclamation points is always perfect.
Is the ice thing for real? I thought we already know that cold on its own decreases puffiness. Like, wouldn't you get the same result with just ice? Wow. People love waste money.
I also think spa treatments feel life changing simply because that's the power of a 20-minute nap. Like, massages are great and part of the magic is simply shutting my mind, my eyes, and resting.
Holy shit I had not heard of mewing but like, a lot of people have talked about mouth tape at night... like, I mentioned I was looking into to stop snoring, and my friend told me her husband uses it, and has some philosophy about how we don't breathe right because we don't chew right anymore... Come to find that entire philosophy in the first video I googled about mewing.... That same husband is a yoga teacher and honestly seems at best worthless and at worst kinda creepy... he (and unfortunately by association she) just fell several points in my esteem. yikes.
okayyy this was the perfect length/style/structure! i know doing these weekly is new…this one was a great balance of in-depth analysis, block quotes, and short bits with hyperlinks. tyyy i love this every week!

That Mew article was heartbreaking.
