You know. For when you need to smooth your software. These idiots don't know anything about skin OR about tech. Listening to the podcast Maintenance Phase and its ilk really turned my grifter radar (grif-dar) into a finely calibrated instrument and all the makeup and skincare pitches hit my ear just the same as the diet pitches, the supplement pitches, the friggin conspiracy pitches, the hustle culture shit and the wellness shit and the capitalist shit, all the same godscorned grift.

"I just can’t take criticism of the Cut writer seriously if it’s coming from people whose own neurotoxin-smoothed foreheads function as ad space for the futile pursuit of perma-youth."

Mic drop.

the Colgate ad was also annoying because the only type of smile it showed was one with a gap, as if gaps haven’t become fairly trendy in the past decade? (like didn’t they watch all of America’s Next Top Model to see the progression of Tyra making a girl get her gap closed in an early season, then making a girl get her gap WIDENED in a later season?)

if they want to celebrate smiles, let’s see some crooked teeth! some yellow teeth! some missing teeth! like you said, they’re a leading brand in teeth whitening so it’s all just lip service anyway, but they can’t even do a good job at pretending to care lol

It's wild to see internet snark become legit. Some of us having been pointing out blogger/influencer bull/exploitation for years and were told we were jealous cat ladies who hate successful women. Glad to see the tide is turning but definitely too late.

I tried to read “the luxury of being plain” but had to put the phone down in disgust at this line, “ Indulging in beauty is an act of self-care and at its core is harmless. ”

HARMLESS???

Tressie McMillan Cottom's article about Oprah and Ozempic was so incredibly good and sad. Also, couture prosthetics?!?!

So much insanity. I’m happy to say that at 58, as vain as I can be, I’m more skeptical of beauty marketing than ever, and slowly — very slowly — becoming more accepting of my own appearance for what it is. It probably helps that for the last two weeks I have not worn a stitch of makeup (other than tinted moisturizer because it’s my daily and it has sunscreen), since I am out camping with my husband. I’ve barely looked in the mirror; I shaved my legs once and then said “f*** it.” Hubs and I have been together 26 years — I think he can handle my leg hair. 😆

As always, thanks for curating the bullshit. Finally a "magazine subscription" that makes me feel better. Keep taking all my money ❤️

It's as if they are tee'ing things up for you more often — from the insanity of Oprah's latest mission to the ignorance of The Cut's op-ed. Keep it coming...
