Will it be completely anti-ozempic? I’m asking because ozempic has helped former cancer patients who have struggled to lose weight post-cancer after gaining weight during treatment (yes, that is a thing and I experienced it) because cancer treatments can mess with your hormones. As a fat person I obviously think prejudice against fat people is an issue, but I also take issue with this idea that weight loss isn’t ever necessary for quality of life.
I mean I can only speak for myself, but I am in no way anti-Ozempic for healthcare. I know lots of people who've been prescribed GLP-1s for various health issues (also beyond weight loss) and I support that — the same way I support plenty of plastic surgery interventions for gender-affirming healthcare, post-mastectomy reconstruction, etc. But the popularity of Ozempic has also increased the cultural pressure to be thin, has strengthened the false associations of thinness and health, thinness and morality, etc. We have to talk about these things precisely *because* semaglutide medications help lots of people/aren't going anywhere/etc.
I can respect that response and feel similarly. I find there is a huge backlash to weight loss in general that is taken too far sometimes, so I apologize that my hackles went up. I understand why that backlash exists of course! Pressure to be super thin haunted me and was never achievable for me and it took a lot of effort for me to heal myself of that mindset.
